It is no secret that we love using essential oils in our home. Its also no secret that Elderberries are proven effective against strains of flu or that they can reduce cold symptoms. Elderberries contain vitamins A, B, and more C than oranges! The dark color of them contains an antioxidant flavonoid called anthocyanin, which has anti-inflammatory properties. Its also important to note that raw elderberries can cause nausea and vomiting. Elderberries MUST BE COOKED. We also all take Vitamin D daily because that is known to play a big role in “flu season” from our lack of sunshine!

Ingredients:

1 cup dried organic elderberries

3 cups of water

1 cup of raw organic honey

6 drops of YL cinnamon bark vitality essential oil

6 drops of YL clove vitality essential oil

*optional* 5 drops of YL thieves vitality essential oil

Directions:

  1. Cook elderberries and water. Bring to high heat without letting it boil. Once it is getting close to boiling, turn it down to a simmer. Place a tilted lid on and let it simmer for 45 minutes.

  2. Remove from heat and let cool. This is very important because heat can destroy antimicrobial enzymes of the honey and can change the chemical constituents of the essential oils.

  3. Add honey and essential oils. Add to a glass container with a lid. The longest I have let ours sit in the fridge is 6 months.

Dosing:

This is what I do for our kids and our family, but you should do what works best for your kids and family. I cannot speak for that. We do a teaspoon a day for the kids and a tablespoon for adults once a day for prevention. When sick we up the dosage to about 6x that, but spread out throughout the day.

I hope this helps empower you to be the gatekeepers of your home! You deserve to know whats going in you home and in your body!
